Louisville Nomz
Who's Hungry?
Louisville is the perfect place to feast on delicious dishes and sip on delightful beverages. The warm weather and constant sunshine is practically begging you to step out to the patio for an enjoyable experience. When I visited Kentucky I had the pleasure of sampling a few of these said places myself. I failed royaly and missed out on the BBQ scene but, if you're looking for something a little different check these places out.
Molly Malone's:
Supposedly a must see on recommendation of J. Law's family (according to a Louisville tourism magazine I was browsing through at our AirBnB) if that piques your interest. My husband and I stumbled into Molly Malone's just before 9 p.m. looking for a bite to eat before our Waverly Hills endeavor. It was a lovely night and when we arrived several people were eating out on the patio enjoying some live music. I was a little hesitant to eat at an Irish pub but they had a large variety of foods on their menu. I ended up getting some kind of a chicken sandwich with fancy cheese, jam and a side of sweet potato fries (yum alert, any time sweet potatoes are involved you can count me in!). My husband got some type of burger with a side of curry chips. The service was fast and friendly and the location was awesome! Located on one end of Bardstown Road Molly Malone's would be a great place to get your drink on too!
Wild Eggs:
My encounter with Wild Eggs is sure to be one I remember. We arrived in front of the building at 6:30 a.m. after our all-nighter at Waverly. Desperate for a wink of shuteye my husband and I napped in the car until the restaurant opened at 7. We don't have Wild Eggs here in Wisconsin but I think it's a chain restaurant type of deal. The interior was cute and modern and there were already a few other people waiting to get in right when the doors opened. Due to sleep deprivation and being a generally wacky human being I was very amused by the different names of menu items. I eventually settled on the "return of the king", a 5 stack of pancakes with whipped cream, peanut butter syrup, banana chunks and chocolate chips. I rarely indulge in the glorious dish that is pancakes so I figured, YOLO. Another thing worth noting is that Wild Eggs serves scrumptious coffee. They even give you this cute little metal coffee server so you can refill as you please. We were both happily satisfied upon departure. We then continued our morning by cleaning up with baby wipes next to our car since we couldn't check into our AirBnB until 2 p.m. Eh, it's all part of the adventure, right?
Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen:
This joint was so good that we visited 2x during our stay. Ice cream= life, there's no shame in my game. The Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen is fab. They make all of their products by scratch and you can genuinely taste the difference. We both ended up getting birthday cake ice cream in a waffle cone (duh). It was SO good that my husband literally woke up the next day craving it. Clearly we had to give into the temptation and make a second stop because we're all about the treat yo'self mentality. Overall, this place is super yummy and I highly recommend it to any other ice cream freaks out there! I didn't even try the pie/cake but I'm sure it is nothing short of heavenly.
Dish on Market:
We stopped at Dish while we were waiting to visit the Evan William's Bourbon Experience. The shop is located close to all of the attractions on Main St. and it came highly rated online so we decided to give it a try. On that note, a tip to the wise: There aren't a ton of food options right on Main St./Market St. but 4th Street Live is very close by equipped with many chain restaurants. I know a lot of locals hate on 4th Street Live for not being an authentic Louisville cuisine experience. However, if you're in a pinch and looking for something quick they do offer some familiar flavors. Now, back to Dish. We were there for breakfast and they had a buffet laid out complete with pancakes, omelets, cinnamon rolls, oh my! We were seated on the upper level of the restaurant so we entertained ourselves by creeping on those dining below us. I ended up getting some kind of eggs Florentine dish served with an English muffin. It was pretty good but nothing to write home about.
Dragon King's Daughter:
Holy Moley, talk about having a happy stomach. This sushi is bomb. It was Sunday night and there was a happy hour special featuring rolls and alcohol at a cheaper price, so much yes. I am a sushi fiend and Dragon King's Daughter did not let me down. We ordered a variety of rolls, each was lovely and unique just like a snowflake. We tried mostly traditional combos except for one that featured chicken... I think it was called the T-bird or something along those lines. I wasn't too crazy about it but my husband really liked it. If you're looking for an added perk of your mealtime adventure take a trip to the ladies room and use the bidet. You know, one of those fancy toilets that sprays water and has a heated seat. It's like two trips in one, it'll feel like you're in Japan not Kentucky.
Holy Grale:
I might be guilty of saving the best for last, because Holy Grale is the bomb-diggity. An old church turned beer lover's paradise this bar is charming and unique. My favorite thing about Holy Grale (aside from their ballin' brew selection) is the outdoor patio. You can order small plates here too but we just opted for a drink since I insisted we checked this place out during our visit.
In conclusion, I LOVE food. Ever since I've gotten home I've been craving some of the grub that only Louisville has to offer.
Until next time, cheers!
