Cruelty Free Update

Greetings All!

I'm here today to discuss my fails and successes thus far on my cruelty free make-up journey. I've been trying to slowly purge my naughty animal tested beauty products one by one and replace them with sunshine and butterfly happy non-animal tested goodness. There are some products that I've come to love and others that were straight-up flops.

Flop #1- Shea Moisture Coconut Oil Shampoo and Conditioner

I was nearing the bottom of the bottle (shampoo bottle that is) and I was pretty pumped to purchase a new cruelty free replacement. After doing a quick search on the Googley for cruelty free drugstore brands I discovered Shea Moisture fit the bill. I'll admit I was pretty psyched to try this stuff out, it's not often I anticipate my nightly showers with excitement. Sadly, things didn't turn out as I had hoped. My dislike for the product may have been my fault because I think I bought the wrong kind of shampoo for my hair type... After my hair dried it felt extremely weighed down and I could still feel the residue of the product on it despite thorough rinsing. After doing some research I realized that the product is marketed towards extremely curly hair types which mine is not. To my despair I also realized a few days after the switch my ends felt more frayed and dry. I'm not sure if this was due to the product switch or something else but they should have been good to go since I got a trim earlier in the week. I ended up having a small set back and bought some Herbal Essence again since it was my tried and true brand. I'm open to suggestions for a new cruelty free replacement in the future.

Flop #2- Better Than Sex Mascara

I actually purchased this product before I started switching things up. I had heard good things about the mascara and the name was tempting enough. Plus I bought this right after the holidays so I had some extra cash in my wallet. I'm not sure if my eyelids are just super oily or something but this stuff just didn't do it for me. About halfway through the day I would have those ever so attractive mascara marks on my eyelids. Completely unaware of their presence until some ungodly hour in the afternoon. Not to be a Debbie downer but I didn't really think this product lived up to it's claims either. My lashes looked pretty much exactly the same as they would with any other product. If you're asking me I say save your money and get a different mascara. However, Too Faced is a cruelty free brand so hooray for that!  In conclusion: not better than sex, would not necessarily recommend.

Success #1- Anything and Everything Milani

Milani cosmetics are the bomb diggity! Since my last post I have purchased multiple matte long-lasting lipsticks in various colors and love them all. Not to mention, I have gotten tons of compliments whilst flaunting the metallic styles. In this event I always refer people to my local CVS of choice. I also use their eyebrow pomade and it's been super excellent to me. The product comes with it's own applicator brush and it stays put even over night. If you can't stand the thought of dropping $30+ at Sephora or Ulta on makeup Milani is a great drugstore alternative.

Mixed Reviews- Wet and Wild Products

The Good: I will admit I was a little hesitant to try the Wet and Wild brand. Mostly because the thought of it brings me back to my 90's childhood. However, they definitely have some high quality goodies!
Lash Renegade Mascara- While I'm not crazy about the applicator brush this is a dope mascara! I've been using it for about 2 weeks now and have not had the issue of it rubbing off on my eyelids. This mascara is comparable to what you would get from CoverGirl or Maybelline. I don't like the applicator because it is weirdly thicker on one end than the other and when you first try using the wand it can cause your eyelashes to kinda clump in certain areas. However, with a little practice I've managed to master the brush creating long and lavish lashes. O-lala.

More Good....
Wet and Wild Concealer- I blogged about this in my previous post. In case you were wondering, it's still awesome. End of story.

The Not so Great:
MegaSlicks Balm Stain(Lady and the Vamp)- The fact that I chose such a dark dramatic color probably has something to do with my dissatisfaction... Let's start with what I liked about the product. The color is nice! As the name suggests, swiping this stain across your pout will make you feel like a countess from Transylvania. Ok, maybe that's a tad bit dramatic.. must be the Leo in my blood. So yeah, the color is nice. If only it would actually stay on! This is one of those dark colors that comes off way too easily. I don't know about you but I'm not about that faded lipstick life! That being said, I do think that a lighter color in the MegaSlicks style could be nice. The balms do leave you feeling nice and moisturized which is a welcomed change compared to the desert-y dryness a matte style leaves you with.

Overall, Wet and Wild has pleasantly surprised me and I will continue to support their brand and their cruelty free excellence!

That's all I have for now folks. I'll be sure to keep you posted with any other great beauty finds!

Til then, stay lovely!
