Halo Top, is it Worth the Hype?

Halo Top? More like Halo Flop.

Halo Top, the latest "too good to be true" fad food leaves much to be desired. Marketed as a healthy alternative for people like myself who just can't get enough dessert in their life, Halo Top is a low cal "ice cream" that you can eat an entire pint of in one sitting minus the guilt.

Now, I'm in no way, shape or form on any sort of diet. Food is one of my true loves on this earth and I will devour almost anything and everything happily. However, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at the very least intrigued by this newfangled frozen treat selection. I have a sweet tooth with a mind of it's own that is constantly nagging me to satisfy it's cravings. Time after time, I disregarded Halo Top for my tried and true brand of choice, Ben and Jerry's. Until one day, after some hemming and hawing, I decided to shake things up.

Due to the low calorie factor and general human gluttony, my husband and I each bought our own pint of Halo Top that fateful evening. Red velvet for him, birthday cake for me. Upon preparing the "ice cream" for consumption things seemed normal enough. We filled our bowls to the brim and headed to the living room for an evening filled with dragons, sword fights and the occasional boob(aka, Game of Thrones).

Almost simultaneously, we both commented how bizarre the texture was. It didn't melt in your mouth(or your bowl for that matter) like traditional ice cream does and you almost have to chew it.  We both found our flavors to be so bloody cold that it was almost painful to eat. The roof of my mouth and my taste buds were numb after a few bites making it hard to taste any trace of birthday cake goodness. Oddly enough, it doesn't get better the longer you let the ice cream sit either. I tried leaving mine alone for a bit in hopes that it would melt and become palatable but to no avail.

I a lover of desserts, a dessert connoisseur if you will, found myself dreaming of the moment my bowl would be empty and I would be rid of the disgrace called Halo Top once and for all.

In conclusion, is Halo Top low in calories, sure. Do they offer a variety of flavors, yes. Is it worth it... hell no. While their marketing is super cute and I think the idea behind the brand is cool I just can't imagine myself ever purchasing Halo Top again. Sometimes you just gotta live a little people, especially when it comes to ice cream. But to each their own! Perhaps you'll try Halo Top and think it's the best thing since sliced bread. And I hope you do, because life is better with a little something sweet!
