2017 Favorite Travel Memories

Image
Feeling Like We Were About to Fly Off the Road on a Mexican Excursion - In the moment, driving down those small Mexican back roads at what felt like a zillion miles an hour was nothing short of terrifying. Now it's somewhat entertaining to reminisce on. We were on an excursion for a day trip to Coba. A handful of other activities were included during the trip, some of which were slightly too adventurous for Jake and I such as, repelling 50 feet into a pitch-black cenote. No gracias. The day was full of fun memories like zip-lining through the jungle, canoeing through a large pond and of course visiting the lovely ruins of Coba. However, for me the thing that was most memorable by far was our tour guide's cray-cray driving. My stress level was taken to the extreme that day, I'm sure I was unnecessarily concerned, but when you're going down those tiny roads watching the trees zip by it feels like you're riding shotgun to a NASCAR driver trying to qualify for the Da

My Goals for 2018

Image
It's that time of year again., people are trading in their bad habits and starting fresh for the new year. Well, at least for a couple of weeks that is... There's something about new year resolutions that never seem to stick. Whether your goal is to hit the gym three times a week or to crush those crappy eating habits in their tracks, most people have a tendency to start the year with a bang and quickly fizzle out. That being said, I find the idea of setting goals/resolutions to better oneself is admirable. Sure, there's no reason you have to wait for a new year to change your life, but hey, it sure feels like a good place to start! I was jotting down some "2018 Goals" on my desktop notepad when I realized I was beginning to accumulate quite the list.  Goal One- Blog More  2017 has been a decent year for blogging. I hope to continue this trend during the new year. http://www.kortext.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Oli-Blog-2.jpg Goal Two- Meditate/Y

Coffee Appreciation Post

Image
Some mornings you need a little inspiration to help get you going. Liquid inspiration that is... On the dreariest of days, coffee is always there to cheer me up and keep me warm. And thanks to Facebook repeatedly targeting their ads at me, I discovered my latest obsession, Bones Coffee Company.  https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/776426619762253824/rVtKOsMV.jpg Being the spooky woman that I am, I'm a sucker for anything featuring cute animated skeletons in strange situations. My interest was peaked, I took the bait and clicked. I was not disappointed with what I found! I feasted my eyes upon an odd array of coffee flavors I had never seen before: strawberry cheesecake, coconut rum and banana's foster, oh my! Temptation was calling and my taste buds were tingling with curiosity. I ended up ordering two bags of pre-grinded coffee. A few days later my caffeinated treats were delivered to my doorstep(they even threw in a free sample of their fall flavor- Jacked O'

Winter Date Ideas

1) Sledding It was fun when you were a kid and it's fun now! Sure, you might get a few odd looks from parents, but they're just jealous. If you find yourself sled-less a broken-down cardboard box is always good for a few short runs. https://d3rr2gvhjw0wwy.cloudfront.net/uploads/activity_headers/130/1200x800-1-70-3d59509cc96a176b38f9c15d036cbaf2.jpg 2) Hot Cocoa There's nothing like a hot drink to help you thaw-out on a brisk winter day. If you're feeling especially bold, take to Pinterest for some fun new hot chocolate recipes. https://www.shugarysweets.com/2013/01/salted-caramel-hot-chocolate-bars 3) Blanket Fort and Movie Marathon Transform your living room into a fortress! Constructing the perfect blanket fort is a bonding experience you'll never forget. For ultimate comfort use a futon mattress as the base. If find yourself futon-less an abundance of body pillows will do. Once the fort is constructed grab your laptop and let the movie marathon

An Afternoon in Chicago

Image
Bean City B**ch, Bean, Bean City B**ch(to be sung to the tune of "Rack City" by Tyga).  That's right folks, today we're talking about the one and only Chicago! A quick jaunt away from my current residence, Milwaukee, Chicago makes for the perfect day trip. With so many interesting sights and activities time flies in the Windy City.  1) See the Bean. Because, nothing says Chicago like a big a** bean. Giant, random and oh-so-shiny, the bean is a perfect addition for your Insta. Bonus: If you've been paying attention to the event section on Facebook lately, you may have noticed an abundance of bizarre bean related events. Some of my favorite events include: Dress up as Guy Fieri and take the Bean to Flavor Town, Summon the Chicago Mothman so I can become it's bride and Catepolt the Bean over the Sears Tower.  https://www.chicagotraveler.com/cloud-gate-chicago 2) Visit the Christkindlmarket. A taste of Germany brought to the Midwest. Eat
