2017 Favorite Travel Memories

Feeling Like We Were About to Fly Off the Road on a Mexican Excursion -
In the moment, driving down those small Mexican back roads at what felt like a zillion miles an hour was nothing short of terrifying. Now it's somewhat entertaining to reminisce on.

We were on an excursion for a day trip to Coba. A handful of other activities were included during the trip, some of which were slightly too adventurous for Jake and I such as, repelling 50 feet into a pitch-black cenote. No gracias. The day was full of fun memories like zip-lining through the jungle, canoeing through a large pond and of course visiting the lovely ruins of Coba. However, for me the thing that was most memorable by far was our tour guide's cray-cray driving. My stress level was taken to the extreme that day, I'm sure I was unnecessarily concerned, but when you're going down those tiny roads watching the trees zip by it feels like you're riding shotgun to a NASCAR driver trying to qualify for the Daytona 500.

Everything about Louisville, KY, but Specifically Waverly Hills -
Louisville is heckin' cute, especially in the Bardstown Rd area of town. This spring we enjoyed a few days in Derby City and were immediately charmed. While Louisville so many great things to offer from bourbon tastings to baseball bats, our favorite experience was something a little more spooky.

Back in the day Waverly Hills Sanitarium was one of the biggest tuberculosis hospitals in the U.S. Today the building is a shell of what it used to be vacant, gutted and a hot-spot for paranormal activity. Jake and I did a 6 hour overnight investigation where we were split into groups and allowed free-reign of 6 floors and the infamous body chute. We had a few spooky encounters while there and took plenty of pictures. Waverly is steeped in history and it was amazing to visit such a unique place.

Side Note: The morning post-investigation will have you feeling next level loopy. We had a fun time geeking-out eating breakfast at the crack of dawn at our new favorite breakfast chain Wild Eggs.

Drinking Beer at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in St.Louis -
We took something of a last minute trip to St. Louis over spring break. Per usual we opted to spend our time staying at an AirBnB and the one we chose in St. Louis happened to be two blocks away from the Anheuser-Busch Brewery.

While it wasn't the most educational tour I've attended, this brewery is something to see. During the tour you visit the stables where you get a close-up look at the famous Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale horses. And let me tell you folks, these things are massive! After hanging out with the noble steeds the tour migrates over to the brewhouse which is an architectural wonder. As I mentioned above, the tour is lacking in brewery factoids, but it's still a good time. Plus, once you're done you get two free drinks at the bar!

Hanging out in Jerome, Arizona -
If you haven't noticed by now, nothing warms my heart like a cute little ghost town. Jerome is adorable AF and I can't wait for the fateful day I'm able to return.

An old mining town with a brutal history, Jerome is rather spooky. The town is soaked in small-town charm and according to the locals almost every building is haunted. We stopped inside one of the most haunted places in the U.S., the Jerome Grand Hotel, and perused their guestbook which logged countless accounts of sleepless nights due to things that go bump in the night. Even if you aren't into looking for ghouls the town has a lot of other fun things to offer such as good food, cute shops and live music. Perched atop one of the tallest hills as far as the eye can see, Jerome is literally the definition of "Instagramable".
