Big City Lessons

Image
Ready for some life talk? I grew up in the lovely town of Appleton, Wisconsin. With a population of 74,000 my experience wasn't quite that of  a"small town" but it certainly wasn't big city either. In the fateful year of 2011 young Jenna (aka me) decided to embark on a new adventure. I packed up my things and moved to Milwaukee. Well, 2011 was quite some time ago and I've been kickin' it city style for over half a decade now. That being said, it probably comes as no surprise that I've learned a thing or two over the years. Something I now can't imagine my life without is the glory of convenience. One major perk of my MKE east side experience is how amazingly walk-able everything is. I live 3 blocks from CVS and a fab grocery store (with a stellar bakery), I'm 5 minutes away from a hoppin' street with nightlife and snazzy food options and just in case I acquire an ailment of any kind I'm steps away from a hospital! Convenience is king an...

Louisville Nomz

Image
Who's Hungry? Louisville is the perfect place to feast on delicious dishes and sip on delightful beverages. The warm weather and constant sunshine is practically begging you to step out to the patio for an enjoyable experience. When I visited Kentucky I had the pleasure of sampling a few of these said places myself. I failed royaly and missed out on the BBQ scene but, if you're looking for something a little different check these places out. Molly Malone's: Supposedly a must see on recommendation of  J. Law's family (according to a Louisville tourism magazine I was browsing through at our AirBnB) if that piques your interest. My husband and I stumbled into Molly Malone's just before 9 p.m. looking for a bite to eat before our Waverly Hills endeavor. It was a lovely night and when we arrived several people were eating out on the patio enjoying some live music. I was a little hesitant to eat at an Irish pub but they had a large variety of foods on their menu. I e...

Lucky in Kentucky

Image
Ah yes, derby city. Louisville, the city of fried chicken, bourbon and lovely southern drawls. Just south of the Ohio river this Kentucky city offers beautiful views and oodles of fun alike. There's just something about river towns that fills my heart with glee. Louisville is no different! The Big Four Pedestrian Bridge-  The big four is impressive! Spanning from the border of Kentucky, across the Ohio river to the Indiana shoreline this bridge is a must see. You can walk, bike or skate your way to the other side (scratch that, I just looked at their website and skateboarding is prohibited... if you try it you didn't get the idea from me...). Unfortunately I was unable to see them for myself but, the Big Four is famous for it's special lighting system that wraps around the bridge. At night it is illuminated in a variety of snazzy colors. Main Street: If you like quirky art, old architecture and museums this is the street for you. Home to the Louisville Slu...

6hrs at Waverly Hills

Image
Let's get para-normal  The Waverly Hills Sanitarium is one of the most haunted places in America. I've heard the stories and I've watched the shows. The Hills were on my paranormal bucket list for quite some time, luckily I was able to check them off! Before I get ahead of myself we need to backtrack. Let's dive into some of the history behind the haunt. The Waverly Hills Sanitarium once functioned as a tuberculosis hospital with cutting-edge treatments and technology to fight "the white plague". TB was spreading rapidly and Over 8,000 people took their last breath in the Sanitarium. Doctors became more and more desperate to find a cure. This lead to many painstaking and questionable procedures on patients. Another thing worth mentioning is TB is an airborne disease. Therefor, anyone who decided to dedicate their time to helping those who feel victim to the illness also put their own lives at risk. Many who worked at Waverly Hills ended up contracting the ...

Dealing With Fear

Image
Fears, we've all got em'.  I used to be afraid of needles, until I got tattooed. I used to be afraid of clowns, until I worked in a haunted house and was placed directly next to the clown room. Sure, I'm still not a fan of getting punctured at the doctor when they draw my blood and I still avoid interacting with clowns when I have the chance. However, these things don't bother me nearly as much as they once did and for that reason I consider myself victorious! Yes, I still have some fears today. Many of which are completely irrational. Here are a few for your reading pleasure... Sometimes I check the doors 300x before going to bed, I worry about plane crashes and I absolutely dread the thought of drowning. Most of these fears were implanted into my brain after countless hours of movies depicting anything and everything that could go wrong in the world (thanks a lot Hollywood). I am a woman who like any other person, has a small collection of things that I fear. h...

Midwest Road Trips

Image
I feel a road trip coming on!  Check out a few fun places here in the Midwest! Wisconsin: Wisconsin Dells- Proud holder of the title, "water park capitol of the world". Wisconsin Dells is filled with just the right amount of over-the-top cheesiness to draw tourists from near and far. The Dells have a little somethin'-somethin' for everyone. With outrageous hotels, weird attractions and natural beauty who could resist? Somehow, even after all these years driving through this little spot always fills me with wonder. Here's a short list of things you will see, An Indian Jones inspired pyramid, an upside-down replica of the White House, the world's tallest man, wizards, a haunted dungeon, Paul Bunyan and a 3-story Trojan horse. This place is seriously strange, in a magical sort of way. If you spend the weekend be sure to see some nature. Built along the Wisconsin River it's not hard to get a little rustic! The rock formations along the river are absolute...
