Game On

Image
What's up Nerds! It's time I let you in on a little known fact about me. Are you ready for it? Ok, here it goes...from time to time I like to indulge in the wonderful world of video games! Oh I'm sorry, was that less exciting than you were hoping for? Anyways, I'll be the first to admit that my love for gaming comes in bursts. I'm what the cool kids might refer to as a "filthy casual". Alas, I am not ashamed, I'll rock that title with pride! I'm not one for competition nor am I much of a puzzle solver so my preferred genres of games are first person shooters, RPGs and anything that involves button mashing. Button mashing FTW! Recently I started playing Diablo 3 which inspired me to write this post. So please, sit back and relax as I tell you about my favorite games. Gauntlet This is the game that started it all. Gauntlet is a classic! I have fond memories of playing it for hours on end as a young sprout. Arguably one of the greatest things abo...

My Adventure Bucket List (U.S.)

Image
Since the idea of putting all of my adventure dreams and aspirations into list-form seems borderline impossible let's start this post off with a bad pun... Texas: Why? Because everything's bigger in Texas. Plus they have awesome architecture and ballin' Mexican food options. Anywhere with tacos, gauc or burritos is a place I want to be! While in Texas I want to see the famous bachelor bats, do the San Antonio river walk and check out the Alamo. I would also need to hit up a few spooky destinations and have an outdoor adventure or two... but that goes without sayin'.  http://hdwallsource.com/texas-landscape-wallpaper-24977.html Oregon: Bucket list destination #1: The Tillamook rain forest. Yup, you read that right, Oregon has it's own rain forest! What the whattt? Home of the banana slug, the Tillamook rain forest is a place I would love to explore! Whilst in Oregon a pit-stop in Portland would be necessary. Who would I be if I didn't want t...

Soil Testing and Gardening

Image
Let's talk dirty... as in soil that is.  If you're thinking of starting your own garden or if you've struggled to grow happy, healthy plants in the past soil testing can help you find out why. Plants can be picky when it comes to what they like. Some of those prickly little fellas won't grow in just any old dirt! Testing the soil in your garden will allow you to know the pH of your garden in order to cater to these stubborn greens. http://blesslaboratory.com/index.php/services/soil Soil testing allows you to monitor levels of all the yummy nutrients your plants need to thrive such as calcium, sodium, potassium and copper. One of the more popular places to inquire about soil tests in Wisconsin is through UW-Madison. The process is pretty simple. 1) gather the sample, 2) bring the kit to the lab to be analyzed, 3) wait for your results, 4) have happy plants! https://extension.unh.edu/Problem-Diagnosis-and-Testing-Services/Soil-Testing UW-Milwaukee also o...

Parfrey's Glen

Image
Magical.  Magical is the one word that truly defines my feelings for Parfrey's Glen. Crowned Wisconsin's second most popular state natural area Parfrey's Glen is an experience like none other!  At first it feels like just another stroll through the woods. The trail winds through trees and overgrown grass, small streams of water scattered with stepping stones interrupt the walkway. This seemingly normal trek continues for about a mile, that's when you'll see it. Giant walls of sandstone begin to surround you, creating an almost canyon-like setting. A shallow stream runs through the Glen sprinkled with tiny pebbles and large boulders of quartzite. This is where the real fun begins!   Exploring this little slice of awesomeness makes it feel as if you've been whisked away to a fairy wonderland.  Parfrey's Glen is another one of those areas that will make you question if you're really in Wisconsin. There are plenty of photo-ops as you co...

An Afternoon in Mad-Town

Image
Ah Madison, Wisconsin's capitol city. A city known for college football and excessive drinking. Madison is like Milwaukee's cool artsy sister. Stroll Down State Street One does not simply go to Madison without visiting State St. This is where all the action is happening! Technically referred to as a "pedestrian mall" there are no cars allowed! Instead you will see a multitude of bicycles, skateboards and long boards alike! Or really any other bizarre form of millennial transportation (unicycles, roller blades, hover-boards...whatever). Food and novelty shops line both sides of this sprawling stretch and I can't say I know from experience but I would reckon that this is where the fun starts after dark. If eating and drinking doesn't catch your fancy catch a show at the historic Orpheum Theater, walk to the capital or get some ice cream at the UW-Madison Union. https://www.theknot.com/us/shelby-wilhelm-and-shanna-casperson-jul-2016/details https://...

The Best Food in MKE

Image
Let's Talk About Food!  Behold! I have complied a list of my favorite places to chow down in Milwaukee. If you find you've got the rumblies that only food can satisfy, allow me to offer you some advice. Prepare to be a very happy omnivore. Fushinami- All you can eat sushi. Need I say more? Honestly, after being so spoiled by Fushinami not many other sushi places cut it for me these days. I always think I should try something new but they keep pulling me back in. The prices are a bit steep but, for everything that you get it's totally worth it. Fushinami offers a wide variety of different rolls, drinks and appetizers. And when it comes to portions size Fushinami will not cut you short. To add to the excitement, they also have a full-size buffet so you can munch while you wait. My favorite rolls include but are not limited to, the Godzilla, the Spicy Tuna Sandwich and the Outstanding Roll. Warning: Fushinami is not for the faint of heart! When you come here you better b...

St.Louis in 48 Hours

Exploring the Gateway to the West There's nothing like a road-trip to satisfy one's need for adventure! All too often I find myself yearning to explore new surroundings. In an attempt to satisfy my wanderlust I decided on a destination within bearable driving distance. That destination was none other than the gateway to the West, St.Louis!  St.Louis is the perfect escape for a few days of fun! Since we were only in the city for the weekend my husband and I were on a bit of a time crunch. However, I can confidently say that we used each moment we had to our advantage! Here are some highlights from our adventure. The City Museum  If you look up things to do in St.Louis the City Museum will surely be one of the top search results. How does one even begin to describe this place!? Just by looking at pictures you can tell the City Museum is unique. Imagine a ginormous jungle gym for children and adults alike. Huge tangles of metal crawl spaces are intermingled with gu...
