Parfrey's Glen

Magical.

Magical is the one word that truly defines my feelings for Parfrey's Glen. Crowned Wisconsin's second most popular state natural area Parfrey's Glen is an experience like none other!

At first it feels like just another stroll through the woods. The trail winds through trees and overgrown grass, small streams of water scattered with stepping stones interrupt the walkway. This seemingly normal trek continues for about a mile, that's when you'll see it.

Giant walls of sandstone begin to surround you, creating an almost canyon-like setting. A shallow stream runs through the Glen sprinkled with tiny pebbles and large boulders of quartzite. This is where the real fun begins!

Exploring this little slice of awesomeness makes it feel as if you've been whisked away to a fairy wonderland.  Parfrey's Glen is another one of those areas that will make you question if you're really in Wisconsin. There are plenty of photo-ops as you conquer large rocks and attempt to make your way from one side of the stream to the other. Pro-tip: wear good walking shoes, flip-flops are a poor choice! (You'll thank me later.)

Even the most experienced hiker is sure to be tuckered out after all the hardcore adventuring Parfrey's has to offer. Luckily, there are a few creative places you can sit down and take a breather if you need to. If you feel ambitious enough to make it to the end your hard work will be rewarded with a cute little waterfall!

Navigating to this hidden treasure is always a bit of a struggle due to poor cell phone reception in the area. However, directions are easy to find with an assist from a quick search on the interwebs! If you stumble upon a small parking lot packed with cars in the middle of  BFE you're probably in the right place.
