An Afternoon in Mad-Town
Ah Madison, Wisconsin's capitol city.
A city known for college football and excessive drinking. Madison is like Milwaukee's cool artsy sister.
Stroll Down State Street
One does not simply go to Madison without visiting State St. This is where all the action is happening! Technically referred to as a "pedestrian mall" there are no cars allowed! Instead you will see a multitude of bicycles, skateboards and long boards alike! Or really any other bizarre form of millennial transportation (unicycles, roller blades, hover-boards...whatever). Food and novelty shops line both sides of this sprawling stretch and I can't say I know from experience but I would reckon that this is where the fun starts after dark. If eating and drinking doesn't catch your fancy catch a show at the historic Orpheum Theater, walk to the capital or get some ice cream at the UW-Madison Union.
Side-Note: If there are any fellow conspiracy theorists reading this post I have a location that might be of interest to you! The UW-Madison Union features murals that were painted by the same artist who did the disturbing artwork at Denver International. Coincidence? I think not.... 😜
Visit The Capitol
Yay for educational fun! Are you not convinced? Sure, history and architecture might not be everyone's cup of tea but, if you haven't visited Wisconsin's capital in the past it's worth a stop. The building is quite impressive and hey, this is where all that state government magic happens! If you're feeling really invested sign up for a guided tour, if not you're free to stroll about to your hearts content. While you're there keep and eye out for the starfish and see if you can hunt down the bald eagle!
Go Someplace Weird
If you're into paper mache and ice cream, boy do I know the place for you! Alright, alright let me explain...Ladies and gentlemen I present to you, Ella's Deli! Visited by shows featured on the Food Network everyone seems to be intrigued by this little oddity. Famous for their impressive dessert menu and quirky decor Ella's Deli sure is something else. Words can only do so much, this is really a place to be seen. The deli's interior is wall to wall, head to toe covered with things that will either make you gleam with nostalgia or plague you with nightmares. Allow me to explain through these lovely photos...

There was a child crying while I was there and I can't really blame them... The pictures I featured here are only a fraction of the real deal. Despite the quirkiness of the place, the ice cream was really quite good! There are things about Ella's that are really quite charming too. Here, have some nice pictures to help cleanse your eyes.
Madison is an interesting place! If you find yourself in the area for a few days you should also consider checking out Baraboo, Wisc. home to Devil's Lake State Park. 10/10 would recommend!
Where else in Wisconsin can you get views like this...
Have fun in Mad-Town!
