Willow River State Park

Sorry TLC, we went chasing waterfalls against all of your attempts to persuade us otherwise. It's sweet summer time and we all know what that means, it's camping season!

We decided to shake things up this year cam at parks we haven't had the chance to explore yet. The lucky winner this time around was Willow River State Park in Hudson, WI. The drive from Milwaukee to Hudson was a whopper but we had our handy dandy podcasts to accompany us(shout-out to Beyond the Darkness).

Willow River State Park's most famous attraction are the Willow River Falls and they are nothing short of epic! North-western Wisconsin is home to a plethora of waterfalls and their beauty is 5-star majestic. Something about the sound of rushing water and the spray of mist has the ability to transport you to another world.

The falls are something of a hidden delight. If you were to simply drive by Willow River State Park you'd have no idea such a marvelous natural wonder was hiding behind it's threshold.

Obviously waterfalls are pretty neat, but that's not the only thing this park has to offer! WRSP is also home to tons of fun hiking trails, a multitude of fabulous campsites and nearby local bike paths. We were pleasantly surprised by how large our campsite was when we arrived. If you're into group camping WRSP would be a great place to do it! Another thing worth noting is how well maintained the park grounds were kept. We were up bright and early walking around and noticed a few workers cruising around keeping the park sparkly and clean.

We had a short span of time and lots of things to see so we did a ton of walking during our visit. Our favorite trail was one that overlooked the falls. This was mostly due to the fact that we discovered an overabundance of garter snakes hanging out on the hillside! Naturally we had to take some time to observe these little guys as they slithered about. Their camouflage was so good we didn't even notice them until our way back down the path.

Don't you hate it when you're camping and way out in BFE? I realize people go camping to, "get away from it all", but I'm talking about convenience people. It's always nifty to have grocery stores and some local flavor nearby in case you need to make a quick beer run or something of the sort. WRSP is right outside of the town of Hudson which offers all of the above! Plus, they have a cute little waterfront area if you make the voyage downtown, it's def. worth taking a peak!

The north-western part of Wisconsin is a camper's dream come true and Willow River State Park is the perfect destination. If you're ever in the area WRSP is certainly worth the visit!
