Mysterious Creatures in Wisconsin

Nothing is more fascinating to me than the unexplained. Paranormal encounters, strange happenings, and mysterious creatures, I can't get enough! There are some things we can't comprehend, surpassing our understanding of the norm. Today I want to blab about some strange creatures that have been sighted throughout Wisconsin.

The Beast of Bray Road:
Lurking throughout the wooded hills and cornfields is a wolf-like creature. Shaggy, dark and menacing this cryptid is different from it's canine friends. What makes this animal special is it's ability to stand upright on it's hind legs. If that's not frightening enough for you, the creature is also reported to have lantern-like eyes and fangs that are ready to take a bite out of whatever sorry soul it encounters.

Sightings of this bi-pedal wolfman have been reported for over 60 years. Most often late at night. Aside from various witness reports, Wisconsin's Werewolf was brought to the public's attention in the 1990's by reporter turned cryptid-guru Linda Godfrey. Godfrey refers to the creature as the Beast of Bray Road since that's where an abundance of sightings occur.

The beast was first seen in 1936 by a security guard in Jefferson CO. Seeing what he believed to by a dog at first glance digging through a mound rumored to be an Indian burial ground he shined it with his light. To his horror what he saw was no ordinary dog, he saw a large, man like thing with large claws and ratty fur. Upon recalling the creature he called it "a demon from Hell". These sighting continued all throughout the county, the creature soon became notorious with many names such as werewolf, manimal, thing, and deformed coyote. Witnesses all describe a similar being stating it stands about 5-7 ft tall, has pointy ears, walks on two feet and has a bone chilling stare. It seems this creature isn't limited to Jefferson county either, sightings of similar beasts have recently been reported all throughout Wisconsin as well as in Illinois and Michigan.

Wisconsin Dell's Reptile Man:
Next time you visit the "water park capital of the world"(Wisconsin Dells), keep an eye out for the Reptile Man. A bizzaro creature was spotted in this area during the 1990's. A man was driving south on highway 13 when he noticed something standing in the road. As he slowed down for a closer look he saw a figure with shiny green scales. The driver tried getting closer but the thing sprouted wings and flew over him landing on the other side of the road.

Shortly after this event another group spotted the same creature, this one fled the scene before anyone could get a good look.

Giant Birdmen:
Linda Godfrey gave lecture at the Milwaukee Paranormal Conference on strange creature sightings throughout the state. One story in particular stood out to me.

A man contacted Godfrey regarding a giant bird sighting. He was riding his bike along a road surrounded by corn fields when he noticed a huge bird. Curious, the man ditched his bike and slowly walked into the field toward the feathered enigma. At this moment he realized just how big it really was! Standing at 6ft tall himself, the man noted that the bird was at least a head taller than he! When it saw him it tried to take off but it's wings were so large it struggled to get off the ground. After a few tries it finally took flight and the man was in awe. The bird had a wingspan that stretched and may have even exceeded the entire width of the road he was biking along. As quickly as it arrived it was gone and the man never saw it again.

These are just a few tales of strange creature sightings in the lovely state of cheese. If you found these reports interesting I recommend you check out Godfrey's work.
