Places to go and Things to See: Potawatomi Edition.
Good Day to All!
If you've read my blog before I'm sure you've already come to know that I am a fan of the great outdoors! This past weekend I went on a mini adventure to Door County's Potawatomi state park with my fiance and two good friends. Yes, Door County is a Wisconsin hot spot but, Potawatomi often takes the back seat to the more popular and well known Peninsula state park (It's ok Potawatomi, we can't all be one of the cool kids). I find Potawatomi to be a hidden gem and would certainly recommend stopping by if your ever in the mood to hit up Wisconsin's peninsula.
While visiting the lovely town of Sturgeon Bay be sure to check out some of these hot attractions....
Not Licked Yet:
Not Licked Yet is a scrumptious frozen custard joint up in Fish Creek WI featuring crazy sundae creations such as the Chubby Bunny and the Chunky Monkey, creepy gnomes and hungry ducks hoping to snatch up some popcorn. I am an ice cream fanatic so this place is a must for me every time I'm even remotely in the area. We bought 3 bags of "duck-corn" while we were there and fattened up the local waterfowl, a few even ate out of our hands!
Bike into the town of Sturgeon Bay:
Potawatomi is located in the town of Sturgeon Bay and it only takes about 15 minutes to bike from the park to the heart of downtown. Sturgeon Bay is a cute little place with plenty of interesting sights to be seen. We hit up a pizza place for lunch one day and enjoyed views of the bay whilst devouring our meals. This town also has lots of cute shops and craft places to check out if that's up your alley.
Sky-Way Drive In:
Door County's one and only drive in movie theater! Enjoy current box office hits from a blanket or the front seat of your car! The Sky-Way Drive In plays double features on the weekends starting at dusk. The first film is kid friendly and the second film is a bit more geared towards adults. This is a unique movie experience you're sure not to forget!
B-e-a-uuuuutiful Neeture:
Potawatomi is a state park, aka it's gorgeous! Check out all of the awesome hiking and mountain biking trails the park has to offer. Don't forget to climb the lookout tower for a bird's eye view of the bay in all it's glory. I love this camping spot because each site is nestled in the woods for an extra "naturey" experience.
Whitefish Dunes State Park:
All right so this list turned out to be more of things to do in the general Door County area, not so much specifically Potawatomi state park. However, since you're already in the area do yourself a favor and visit Whitefish Dunes State Park, this place is ultra-gorgeous and sure to satisfy one's need for adventure! The park features very rustic hiking trails along Lake Michigan and you can even jump in if you so please! All in all Whitefish Dunes state park is super pretty and definitely worth the stop!
Go outside kids, it's good for your health!
