A Day in Tucson

Home of the Saguaro Cactus and Old Tucson Studios welcome to the wild, wild west.

Driving through Tucson is surreal. The roads wind through mountainous hills covered in cacti. A glance over the steep mountain-edge is enough to give one a rush of anxiety. The sights are picture perfect and the city of Tucson knows it. In fact, they account for it with various areas to pull to the side for photo-ops.

After soaking up all the majestic wonder we found ourselves at Saguaro National Park. Did you know that the Saguaro cactus is found exclusively in the Sonoran Desert? Talk about being an MVP!

Per usual it was a rather toasty(by toasty I mean hot AF) day so we did much of our exploring via car. We drove through a loop in the park, getting out here and there for a short hike and of course we took a butt-load of pictures.

A bit of paranoia kicked in as we thought of all the desert creatures capable of killing us. Alas, we persisted!

After wrapping up our national park adventure we decided to check out Old Town Tucson. Old Town Tucson is what remains of Tucson Studios where the cowboy movies we all know and love were filmed. Unfortunately, we arrived on a Friday and they were only open on Saturdays and Sundays.

So we did what any good explorer would do and sought out some delicious eats instead! We ended up checking out a place called the Garage, a cute little gastropub with dope-ass salad dressing.

Fueled-up and ready to go, our next stop was the Pima Air and Space Museum. Now I'll admit, I had my doubts about the fun-ness levels of this place. I had been to Air Museums before and didn't think they were anything too special. Pima was different. For starters the museum was absolutely ginormous. They had 6-7 hangers filled with planes, missiles and space memorabilia. However, what makes this place really special are the workers. All of the workers are volunteers and many are veteran pilots. Upon entering each hanger we were approached by a new, excitable volunteer eager to share their stories with us.

Aside from our main events for the day we did do some general dinking around in Tucson. A few standout sights in the city are Rattlesnake Bridge and the Mission San Xavier del Bac church. It's also worth noting that downtown Tucson had some super hip/cute businesses that are probably worth checking out!
